A Chipolino’s donation helped transform the youngest community center in Plovdiv
The story of this noble initiative is quite short but filled with enthusiasm and efforts all on voluntary basis. The community center opened as a dancing school in 2009. In a very short while the dance trainees numbered more than 300 people and the folkdance group gave a number of performances at feasts and concerts. The thriving of this school and the growing number of its followers arouse the necessity of a larger place to gather and exchange ideas and knowledge. This is how in 2018 Professor Kiril Dzhenev Community Center, named after the doyen of Bulgarian stage folklore dancing, was established. The main purpose of the new cultural center is to acquaint children and give them the opportunity to master different arts.
This way, with voluntary labor and corporate donations, including our financial aid of BGN 2000, and the collaboration of North District of Plovdiv Municipality, the building housing the community center was totally repaired and renovated and its official opening took place in May. The transformed community center has a renovated premises including expanded dance and art practice flooring. It has a rich library of more than 6000 book titles with a special section for arts and folklore.
It offers courses in folklore dancing, ballet, modern dancing, piano, solfeggio, pop and jazz singing, painting, mathematics, miming and embroidery. More than 160 children have subscribed and attend these courses. The community center is now able to support itself by the courses it offers but lots of effort and unflagging energy has been put in to bring it to its today’s condition. We admire its founders and we are happy to support their cause to preserve and popularize culture and arts for the future.
