On this day the child Maria entered the temple in Jerusalem to commit to God.It is believed that the holiday was first celebrated in I AD. It marks the beginning of fasting around Christmas, the beginning of the winter season and Christmas Eve’s preparation time.According to the tradition, on this day the families attend the church together with their children. Thus, they symbolically walk in Virgin Mary’s footsteps towards the temple. In this way, parents remember that they have to lead their children spiritually. On this day starts the preparation for Christmas.
